Ella’s Story
Ella was hospitalized at 5 weeks old for a week and was sick on and off very often. By six months old, Ella had rash that spread from her neck to her face, ears, body, diaper area, etc. It had progressed to the point that it was oozing puss-like fluid. The doctor felt it was a yeast rash and prescribed a topical cream. The morning after I applied the cream her rash had severely worsened. I immediately stopped using the cream and went back to the doctor. Ella’s doctor was not sure what was causing the rash, but she denied it was an internal issue. I explained that I had seen her cheeks break out in a deep red rash following a feeding and noticed corn on the baby food label. I discovered that corn byproducts are used as common ingredients in almost every food. Ella’s doctor thought it would be a good idea to change her formula. I had already changed her formula several times before for various reasons. Her doctor wanted me to try soy formula, to which I nodded my head and said “OK” knowing I would have nothing to do with soy (it is a highly GMO crop). After leaving the doctor and feeling hopeless and scared, I was so desperate I went ahead and tried the soy formula. The following day she woke up just as bad, if not a little worse. I was beyond frustration, and decided the cause must be in her formula. It had to be something in her formula that was in every formula I had tried. I went to the cupboard, took out six different cans of formula, turned to the ingredient list and began reading:
Nonfat milk, lactose, vegetable oil, palm olein, SOY, coconut oil, SOY LECITHIN, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, along with several other ingredients I cannot pronounce let alone explain what they are. I had no idea there were SOY ingredients in my NONFAT MILK formula. Corn syrup solids were the first ingredient in most of the formulas I had. I immediately remembered that Ella had a bad reaction to the corn in her baby food. My heart sank, but I knew this was it. It was first the corn and then the soy. I went to my computer and began reading up on commercial formula, just to find out how dangerous it really is. I could not believe people in the food industry could be so heartless they would actually feed babies this poison. It is no wonder why our children are sicker than ever with autism, ADHD, cancer, diabetes, etc. From that point forward, I vowed to never feed my baby this junk/poison again. I researched extensively to find recipes for homemade formulas and found one that I felt very comfortable with. Several reputable doctors support it: Dr. Greene, Dr, Mercola, Dr. Sears and the Weston A. Price Foundation.
After making my first batch of handmade formula, I never felt so good about feeding Ella. It was such an amazing feeling knowing I had wonderful ingredients that were real food. I just knew they would help my little Ella improve.
Day 2-Right away I could see the areas that were very red and raw were now more of a light pink. All of the oozing had stopped. Her skin was not inflamed like it had been. By the second day she looked like she was “glowing.” It was like her body was getting the foods and nourishment it needed for the first time.
Day 4-Ella’s skin was almost completely cleared of eczema and the seborrheic dermatitis.
I ended up discovering that Ella’s condition was more complicated than just an allergy and eczema. She had seborrheic dermatitis, which is a type of eczema that affects the glands of the skin (sweat and/or oil glands). The body was eliminating toxins though the oil glands. One of the symptoms of Seborrheic Dermatitis is cradle cap which she also had. This type of release indicates an overactive immune system in which the body needs to release high levels of toxins. Where as oil would normally be released, instead the glands release a yellowish, puss- like substance. This dermatitis is usually triggered by allergens, caused by an internal source (typically a diet which has too many toxins, processed sugars and junk foods).
Candida yeast overgrowth was also a reason. Once I figured out Ella was dealing with seborrheic dermatitis and discovered the cause, I changed her formula recipe to deal with the Candida yeast as well as the eczema. I had her on a strict diet and regimen while dealing with the seborrheic dermatitis.
